Working Meeting Between Dr. Avgerinopoulou and Prince Albert II of Monaco
Focus on Marine Environmental Protection

Dr. Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, Special Envoy of the Greek Prime Minister for the Oceans, Coordinator of the “Our Ocean Conference 2024,” and Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Environmental Protection, held a working meeting in Monaco with HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The main topic of discussion was the protection of the marine environment, reflecting Prince Albert II’s longstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and ocean conservation. The two sides exchanged views on key environmental challenges and discussed the major upcoming international conferences on ocean protection organized by both countries, namely the Monaco Blue Initiative on 17–18 March and the 9th Our Ocean Conference 2024, to be held in Athens on 15–17 April 2024.

Special reference was also made to Monaco’s environmental mission in the Mediterranean, scheduled to begin in October 2024 with Greece as its first destination. The mission is part of the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

The meeting was also attended by Monaco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Berro-Amadei, the Vice President and CEO of the Prince Albert II Foundation Mr. Wenden, and senior officials of Monaco’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Avgerinopoulou, on behalf of the Hellenic Parliament, presented Prince Albert II with a commemorative case containing three coins depicting heroes of the Greek War of Independence of 1821.
